Privacy Policy

fm.video ("fm.video", "we", "us") is a service operated by Growth Spurt that turns public radio now-playing information into continuous music-video channels streamed from YouTube. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the fm.video website and app.

1. Information we collect

• Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address (and, if you sign in with Google, Facebook, Apple or Microsoft, the basic profile fields that provider shares, such as name and avatar). Authentication is handled by our processor, Supabase.
• Content you create. Playlists and queues you build, save, or share, and any playlist you import from a third-party service.
• Usage and device data. How you use the service — pages viewed, tracks played, stations tuned, features used — plus technical data such as IP address, browser type, device type, and approximate (city-level) location, collected via analytics.
• Local storage. We store your current queue, sort preference, and import history in your browser so the app works across visits. This stays on your device unless you sign in.

2. How we use your information

• To provide and operate the service, including saving your playlists and preferences.
• To authenticate you and secure your account.
• To understand usage and improve the product (analytics).
• To communicate with you about the service where you have asked us to.
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

Where required, our legal bases are your consent, our legitimate interest in operating and improving the service, and performance of our agreement with you.

3. Third parties and processors

We share data only with service providers who process it on our behalf, or where required by law. Key providers:

• Supabase — authentication and database (your account and playlists).
• Google Analytics (GA4) — usage analytics. Google processes this per its own policies.
• YouTube / Google — video playback is via the embedded YouTube player. Your use of the player is also subject to the Google Privacy Policy and YouTube's Terms of Service.
• Cloudflare and our hosting — content delivery and infrastructure.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies (including browser local storage and Google Analytics) to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and measure usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect functionality.

5. Data retention

We keep account and playlist data for as long as your account is active. Analytics data is retained for a limited period per our analytics configuration. When you delete your account we remove or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to meet legal obligations.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or object to our processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent. You may also complain to your local data protection authority (in New Zealand, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner).

7. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where we transfer data internationally we take steps to ensure it remains protected consistent with this policy.

9. Children

fm.video is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the "last updated" date above.
